Megan Woodard Johnson is an abstract artist working with collage and paint to create color and movement in her pieces. She lives and creates in West Bend, Wisconsin. She received her BFA in Graphic Design and Fine Art Printmaking and over the past decade has shown her work in numerous juried and solo exhibitions, taught collage and mixed media workshops as well as completed multiple artist residencies.
For Johnson, the meeting place between private moments and shared or universal experiences is a constant inspiration. Exploration of the many layers of accumulated experiences that create who and where we are in any given moment fuels her creative work.
Her abstract works layer collage, paint and mark-making to create densely layered records of the way moments and experiences converge to create elements of our personal histories. She approaches each piece as a kind of map or record: using line, shape and gesture to chart the experiences that have come before, merging organization with spontaneity, resulting in a celebration of the complex history of a single moment.
